As the children move from EYFS into Year One we endeavour to make this transition as smooth as possible. We build upon the experiences that the children have had in EYFS and ensure that provision is in place to meet their individual needs so that they can access the Key Stage One curriculum when they are ready. All children are given responsibilities that help them to become more independent and confident learners. Our children are actively involved in the running of our school through the positions of classroom monitors and school council members.
Our children experience a creative curriculum that provides opportunities for connections to be made between different areas of learning. We foster an ethos of finding out and discovery of new ideas which then helps the children to direct their own learning. These include as many outdoor learning experiences as possible. We are keen to link technology with many areas of the curriculum enabling the children to explore and use different equipment both independently and with support. At the end of the academic year the children will experience the ‘Phonics Screening Check’. This is a statutory nationwide check which is either pass or fail. We work closely with Year Two to prepare the children for their final year in our school.
